Skin, Sun and Snow

Sun exposure is commonly associated with summer, but the damage induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be particularly intense even in winter, especially under snowy conditions. Snow reflects up to 80% of UV radiation, significantly amplifying skin exposure.
This reflection makes the skin doubly vulnerable: not only to direct rays from the sun but also to those bouncing off the snow-covered ground. At high altitudes, the effect is further intensified by the reduced atmospheric layer filtering radiation.
The most common damages include sunburn, skin dryness, and premature photoaging, linked to the degradation of collagen and elastin fibers. Moreover, repeated exposure without adequate protection increases the risk of developing precancerous lesions and skin carcinomas in the long term.

It is important to emphasize that the use of broad-spectrum sunscreens, regular application on exposed areas, and protection with sunglasses equipped with UV-filtering lenses are essential recommendations even during the winter.
Essential fatty acids and the vitamin complexes A and E help the skin prevent chronic inflammatory processes and oxidative stress.
